The Challenge
A large IT environment had outgrown its documentation.
The org chart was out of date. Teams could not clearly see what services other teams provided. Architects lacked visibility of which platforms were actually in use. Even within teams, knowledge of assets and dependencies was inconsistent.
That created operational risk. If a platform changed or failed, leaders could not easily see which services might be affected.
Our Approach
Innovate Design Build led structured discovery across 43 IT teams, including highly specialised groups.
The goal was not another static document. The goal was a simple, maintainable service model that teams could own and leaders could use.
The Execution
A common documentation structure was created across the IT organisation.
Each team was mapped by function, services, service owners, supporting platforms and key dependencies. A simplified platform-to-service map showed how infrastructure supported services and where impact could flow if assets changed or failed.
Ownership was built into the model so teams could maintain their own information over time.
The Results
The organisation gained a clearer view of its teams, services, platforms and dependencies.
Architects could design with better context. Teams could understand each other’s responsibilities. Leaders gained a more useful view of operational risk and service ownership.
The work also created a common documentation standard for future roadmaps and architecture material.
