The Challenge
A research group needed a laboratory environment capable of supporting GMP certification.
The initial internal view treated the problem as standard IT delivery: networks, virtual machines, storage and backups.
But the real risk was compliance scope. If the lab relied too heavily on shared enterprise infrastructure, routine IT changes could create documentation and validation obligations across the wider organisation.
That could slow down IT operations, weaken the certification pathway, or create audit failure risk.
Our Approach
Innovate Design Build reframed the problem from provide infrastructure to contain the compliance boundary.
The goal was to isolate the lab environment so the research group could pursue GMP certification without dragging the broader IT environment into unnecessary compliance burden.
The Execution
A dedicated hybrid architecture was designed for the lab environment.
The design separated critical lab systems from shared enterprise infrastructure using isolated network components, controlled connectivity and a cloud-based operating model for the regulated environment.
This gave the research group and certification partner a clearer, more defensible technical model.
The Results
The research group moved from a risky shared-infrastructure approach to a clearer certification-aligned architecture.
The design reduced audit risk, lowered the expected compliance burden on internal IT, and gave the lab a stronger technical pathway toward GMP certification.
